Cote d’Ivoire Market Watch | May 28th 2015: BRVM give up XOF 30bn, index lower today
Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Thursday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 275.04 to 272.88 points, a drop of 0.79%. BRVM Composite index lost 0.44% to 267.14 against 268.32 points previously. The equity market capitalization was recorded at XOF 6,591.72 billion compared to XOF 6,621.05 billion previously (a decrease of almost XOF 30 billion).
Looking at the market activity, the total volume traded was recorded at 249,253 (a rise of 78 percent compared to Wednesday total volume) and total traded value was recorded at XOF 1,168.341 million (against XOF 756.179 million recorded at Wednesday trading session) exchanging hands in 30 securities out of 39 listed securities via 225 transactions. Today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATION Togo with 164, 090 traded shares and by value was ONATEL Burkina Faso with a XOF 479.48 million traded value.
From the market price movers’ angle, out of the 30 traded securities there were 10 price gainers, 13 price losers and 7 remained unchanged. The top gainers were UNIWAX COTE D’IVOIR (appreciated by 7.44 percent to close at XOF 23,100), VIVO ENERGY COTE D’IVOIRE (gained 3.64 percent to close at XOF 57,000), TOTAL SENEGAL (advanced 2.59 percent to close at XOF 27,700), CFAO MOTORS COTE D’IVOIRE (surged by 2.00 percent to close at XOF 65,280) and BANK OF AFRICA SENEGAL (rose by 1.15 percent to close at XOF 67,000). On the other hand, topping the losers’ were SODE COTE D’IVOIRE declined by 5.63 percent to trade at XOF 65,000 and FILTISAC COTE D’IVOIRE fell by 5.26 percent to close at XOF 27,000. Also, SGB COTE D’IVOIR and CIE COTE D’IVOIRE declined by 4.61 percent and 4.26 percent to close at XOF 97,300 and XOF 67,000 respectively.
From sector viewpoint, the sector indices ended in a mixed feeling. Distribution sector index went up by 0.99 percent and transportation sector index advanced by 0.65 percent as well as industry sector index up by 0.07 percent to end at 160.16 points. Whereas, public utilities sector index declined by 0.76 percent, financial services sector index shed off 0.68 percent and agriculture sector index plummeted by 0.40 percent.
